Randy Ryan is a dedicated mental health advocate. He started a Veteran’s Mental Health support group for NAMI Westside Los Angeles (NAMI-WLA), where he leads the NAMI Homefront program, providing mental health education and support for military families, caregivers, and friends of service members. His extensive work in veteran advocacy began with the Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC), where he helped launch the California Initiative, now a statewide chapter connecting veterans with careers in agriculture. Randy, who grew up on a farm, remains deeply engaged in agriculture causes and also with the West LA VA Center, one of the largest VA hospitals in the country.

Veteran & Community Impact

In addition to his work in mental health, Randy made a lasting impact through the American Heart Association’s Teaching Gardens program, leading a movement that began at 1 school in inner-city Los Angeles into a nationwide program reaching 500 schools nationwide, educating children about nutrition, gardening, and food sustainability. His contributions earned national recognition, including features in the Huffington Post as one of five military veterans making a national impact, and participation in a Ford Hero campaign among many other recognitions.

Podcast & Personal Journey

In 2009, Randy married Erin Raftery Ryan, and they have two daughters, who are the most meaningful part of his life. Growing up without knowing his father, he discovered his father’s identity through research and the book Shelter From The Storm. This personal experience led him to explore manhood, resilience, and self-discovery, inspiring him to launch the Man Up Podcast—a platform where he engages in conversations on masculinity, mental health, and personal growth.
